Prostitution in South Korea

If there's one topic that never gets old and never seems to die out of the media it's definitely prostitution. Prostitution in South Korea makes up 4% of their GDP for an estimated total of $22 billion a year and over 1.2 million girls working in some form of the industry.

This prostitution almost seems invisible as they don't use the "street walker" approach, key word "almost" in actuality it is every where, literally every where despite being outlawed in 1948, seems law enforcement just turns a blind eye.
To satisfy the publics growing outrage to clean it up, they had a "crackdown" in 2004 with a new anti-prostitution law, they made a few busts, released a few figures and on goes the prostitution.

Two years later,2006,there is more talk of shutting "it" down. If anything, there are more of these places open than before. They aren't hard to notice they usually have the biggest neon sign on the entire building 안마 (an ma)english translation is massage, which are basically brothels.

Now, when I mentioned before how these places are everywhere, here's one of the more interesting/humorous places I've seen one...

That's right, the neon sign and accompanying "barber polls" sandwiching the "Holy Cross" of a church. The massage parlour and church actually share the top floor together. What convenience, after you are done with your prostitution experience, you can stroll down the hall to the church and repent your sins.

interesting article:"Sex and denial in South
Korea"

what the hookers think: "Korean sex trade 'victims' strike for rights"
and of course: "Confessions of a Dangerous Pervert"
