Suicide State

Apparently the current economic slump in S.Korea has increased the suicide rate. I've often heard stories of failing business men and corrupt officials tossing their selves off apartment buildings and bridges into the Han River but I had no idea the rate of suicide was any where near what it is now, I find this a bit disturbing. According to an article in the Chosun Ilbo, last year(2005) an average of 33 people per day committed suicide, ranking Korea first out of all 30 OECD states. Here is a quote from another article from the Korea Herald...

"With 26 out of every 100,000 Korean citizens committing suicide last year - more than double the 11.8 recorded in 1995 - a total of 12,000 deaths is the highest of all 30 OECD member states."

"ranking Korea first out of all 30 OECD states"

I wonder... does that mean Korea ranks first for suicides in the world?
